Dance, Act, Sing, Perform...do it all at LA Performing Arts! Classes offered for ages 3-Adult in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio, TX. Dance classes include Jazz, Ballet, Broadway, Tap, Modern, Lyrical, Contemporary, and more. Acting classes in TV/Film and Improv.

Ages 3-6

Camps


Princess Ballerinas    

Come be a princess with us! Dress up as your favorite princess all week long and learn ballet, do art projects and crafts, have a tea party, get a make-over, act out fairy tale stories and dance at the Princess Ball on Friday!  (Tiaras provided.)

Triple Threat Jr.

Our most popular camp is offered to our youngest students too! Campers split their time evenly between singing, dancing and acting all week long, with lots of improv fun as well. Everything leads up to a big show on Friday!

Royal Ballet

Do you dream of ballet? Get cast in a ballet and feel like a ballerina all week long as you prepare your role and dance. Learn graceful ballet choreography, pick out your costumes and more before the Ballet debut performance on Friday!

 

Classes


Classes start the week of June 18 and run until August 17.

Ballet/Jazz Combo

Our Combo classes cover a combination of ballet and jazz dance technique in an hour-long class. Dancers learn ballet foundations for the first half-hour of class, and switch to jazz technique with up-beat songs and choreography for the second half-hour.
    
Teachers employ fun and engaging learning tools including bean bags to learn balance, ribbons to work on fluidity, and scarves to focus on arm positions, providing a fun and entertaining way to learn dance.

Broadway

Our most popular class! The Broadway class combines singing, dancing, and acting. All three skills are worked on every week, with focus on specific technique and exercises to increase skills. The dance style is musical theater jazz, where students are taught to bring their own unique acting style and emotions into the choreography. Students learn how to incorporate proper singing technique into their dancing.

Class material includes jazz dance technique, theater acting, improvisation, and vocal technique. Broadway students perform an acting script into a song and dance number.

Triple Threat

Our most popular camp!  Students dance, act, and sing as they spend an hour with a vocal coach, an hour with an acting coach and an hour with a dance coach daily. Throughout the week they'll be taught original choreography, singing techniques and an acting script all gearing up for the big show on Friday!

(Campers are assigned into groups of similar age range)

Jazz Dance Star

Want to dance like the dancers on TV, Broadway, and on tour? Spend a week leaping, turning, learning to do splits, and dancing as you learn fun jazz dance choreography to your favorite pop songs!

 

Hip Hop

Break it down! Learn tons of elements of hip hop street dancing like break dancing, popping, locking, tutting, and many more in this cool camp. Then, show off your skills at the big performance on Friday.

Singing Sensations

Are you the next big pop or rock star? It's time for your big solo. Find your stage name, pick your song, and enjoy your big moment on stage as you sing all week long. Take our only camp that gives you a chance to get one-on-one AND group vocal training daily. All leading up to the big competition on Friday in front of a live audience!

Hollywood Celebrity

Have you always wanted to star in a movie? Now's your chance! Learn the world of movie production as you shoot, film, and star in a short film. Copy of movie provided. Movie premiere on Friday!

Ballet I & II

Ballet is one of the most classical styles of dance. It evokes images of grace and beauty. Our classes have a focus on teaching ballet in a fun and safe environment, encouraging students to push themselves further at their own pace.

Levels start at I & II, move into pre-pointe at level III, and begin more intensive pointe-work at levels IV & V.

Once teacher evaluation has determined individual students are strong enough, they will be invited to their first pointe shoe fitting. Then, students begin pointe training.

Hip Hop

Our Hip Hop classes cover a wide umbrella of hip hop dance styles, allowing students to become familiar with movements from break dancing, popping and locking, to tutting and freezes.

Teachers work with students to understand body isolations and a lower center of gravity while teaching fun combinations and choreography. Students are helped and encouraged to find their own unique style.

Jazz Dance

A fun, ever-evolving style of dance. Jazz dance is the most predominant style performed in famous musicals. From West Side Story to Newsies, Gene Kelly to Michael Jackson, jazz dance is also known for it's upbeat songs, flashy choreography, and combination of leaps and turns.

Our Jazz classes help build the proper skills students need to have a base foundation in dance, including preparation for musical theater and contemporary style dance. Our Jazz dance program trains dancers be prepared for jazz dance auditions, including into our pre-professional company, the Sensations Dance Company.

TV/Film

Our TV/Film classes focus on training students at an individual level in a group setting to increase their acting range. Teachers employ method acting techniques taken from acting greats such as Uta Hagen, Stanislavski, Meisner, and Stella Adler, with an emphasis on building upon student's strengths and increasing their skills and comfort level with new material.

Students are filmed each week in class and work on material including: cold readings, commercials, monologues, partner-work, scene study, hitting the mark, memorization. Building an acting headshot and resume, proper auditioning etiquette, and union information is also covered in class.

Choreography Camp

A must for dancers who have always wanted to choreograph their own dances! Both new and seasoned choreographers can learn essential choreography skills required when creating their own pieces in our choreography camp this summer. Learn fundamentals, advanced techniques, and get to create a piece of your own throughout the week in this one-of-a-kind camp.

Ballet Intensive

Ballet students passionate about continuing their ballet education will benefit greatly from our week-long Ballet Intensive. Learn ballet variations as you work on your flexibility, technique, grace, and strength. Ballet experience required.

Dancers passionate about continuing their dance training and technique throughout the summer should take part in our Jazz Intensive. Students can work their jazz technique and challenge their personal dance style as they learn new choreography from famous jazz choreographers each day.

Contemporary Jazz

This ever-evolving form of dance challenges the body in new and creative ways as dancers explore creating non-traditional movements and acrobatic skills while learning the intricacies of contemporary jazz. Dancers can keep their technique sharp this summer by learning week by week in our Contemporary Jazz Summer class. Dance experience required.

Adult Classes

It's always a good time to learn to dance!  Come join us for a summer of ballet, jazz, and hip hop. Practice new skills, learn new technique, and learn choreography in each of our adult dance classes.  You'll have so much fun won't even know you're getting a workout!

Adult Acting Workshop

Open to all acting levels, the Adult Acting Workshop exercises foundational skills for those who are curious about acting or for those seeking a refresher. In this workshop, group exercises will command the confidence and creativity that you already have within your natural abilities to come forward. Students with varied experience will learn by watching others grow and/or rediscover their personal strengths and vulnerabilities whilst participating. The goal is to explore the building blocks necessary for comfort, nerve and fun when it comes to acting. Come play!
